When We're Gone • for Richard

From Paul Reisler

Both Richard and my wife Julie had waited for the changing of the seasons (the equinox and the solstice) to begin their journey--for the time when the barriers between the worlds were thinner. Now, I find that I can't find the words to fully express how much Richard, his music, our travels, and his friendship meant to me. So, I'll let this song say the rest. I had been recording it for an album. The tracks were finished except for the vocals. A couple of days ago, I changed a few lyrics to have a version that spoke to what I feel for our dear friend.

When We're Gone

By Paul Reisler and Scarlet Keys

In memory of Richard Russell

When there’s nothing left but memories

Of your poetry and song

They’ll be my rainbow in the storm the bridge I walk across when I'm lost

Just because Just because

What do we leave when we leave it all behind?

What's left when there's nothing left at all?

What carries on when the last verse is faded from our song

When we're gone When we're gone

The way you saw the world

Left you breathless as a sunset

It’s a love I won't forget you beautiful brave rebel with a cause

Just because Just because

What do we leave when we leave it all behind?

What's left when there's nothing left at all?

What carries on when the last verse is faded from our song

When we're gone

P.S. It was too high for me to sing, and we are in Portugal right now, this is my voice clone who sounds like me, but much better.
